Hypnosis: An Explanation

Hypnotherapy in Islington .. Hypnoanalysis in Islington

Lotus Flower

Hypnosis is safe and very relaxing

Many people have misunderstandings about hypnosis. They may have seen a stage hypnotist and thought that the people he chose to come up on the stage were completely under his control. This is how it seems but it is an act. The people he chooses are given the opportunity to do some of the things they may not have felt able to do without the excuse of hypnosis. He chooses very suggestible people who want to perform and be extrovert and so when he suggests that the onion they are about to eat is an apple they will usually go along with this and appear to enjoy the onion as if it were an apple.

Here at Hypnotherapy Islington, I will always have your best interests at heart and therefore you will find that hypnosis is safe and very relaxing. It is a very natural state and one that you can enjoy completely. Anyone can be hypnotised unless they don't want to be.

This is the important thing to remember. You cannot be hypnotised without your consent.

By coming for Hypnotherapy you are embarking on a very positive journey that will lead to many positive changes in your life.

You are always in Control

When you experience hypnosis, you are always in control. The hypnotist/hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything you do not want to do. You are probably more aware of what is going on when in hypnosis than at any other time. You are not sleeping or in some weird kind of trance but you will feel very relaxed. You may have sensations such as feeling very light or very heavy or you may experience a pleasant tingly feeling. Everyone has their own unique experience of hypnosis.

Here at Hypnotherapy Islington your experience will be one that is totally relaxing and enjoyable - an experience that ensures you will be able to make desired changes. .

Whatever distress you are feeling right now - whether you have anxieties, panic attacks, phobias or one of a miriad of other distressing symptoms or simply wish to be more at ease when giving a speech at a wedding or more confident when taking a driving test, at Hypnotherapy Islington you will get the help you need to overcome your fears.

There is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling

That's right, there is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling!

Everyone experiences hypnosis in a slightly different way. Some will say they didn't feel hypnotised at all but they noticed they felt very differently about things after the session. They noticed things that had previously upset them didn't even bother them anymore and, in fact, they hardly noticed those things anymore. They were much more calm and relaxed subsequently.

The most common experience is for people to say they haven't felt that relaxed before and many people drift off into a day-dreaming state where they lose all touch with the voice of the therapist. This is ok since, when in a state of hypnosis, the subconscious mind is hearing everything and, therefore, the conscious mind can just drift wherever it wants to. Even during sleep your subconscious mind hears everything.

In fact, when the conscious mind is by-passed, as happens when you are in hypnosis, suggestions are accepted without question by the subconscious (or unconscious mind) as long as you agree with them.

This makes hypnotherapy SO effective.

When this happens, the new beneficial suggestions just slip past your conscious mind unnoticed and before you know it you are feeling really good and the problems once experienced so profoundly have disappeared as if they were never there in the first place!

When you decide to see a hypnotherapist/hypnoanalyst you come to make changes that you have decided you want to make. Therefore, all the suggestions that are made for you are those that you want wholeheartedly. Because of this, your subconscious mind is totally open to these suggestions and you will find the improvements you are looking for will be obvious soon after the session is over.

Please note that when embarking on a course of Hypnoanalysis, suggestions are used in order to relax you and the main therapy is in the recall of memories from childhood. In Hypnotherapy the main therapy is in the use of positive suggestions spoken by the therapist to the client.

Last, but not least ...

You can never get stuck in hypnosis

Just as you cannot get stuck in a day-dream so you can never get stuck in hypnosis.

Hypnosis is simply a state of complete relaxation. It is like day-dreaming, when immersed in an interesting book or when watching a great film when everything else around you just disappears - you don't notice it at all. It is the state that we all go through each night just as we are about to fall asleep and also just as we are beginning to wake up in the morning. It is so natural and a state that we experience everyday without even noticing most of the time and therefore there is no problem in leaving hypnosis.. If an emergency were to happen when you were in hypnosis you would be able to easily leave the state and open your eyes. If the hypnotist were to suggest something that you did not agree with you could easily disregard it or come out of hypnosis without any difficulty whatsoever.
